Who is he? Fred Lane Jr, - former professional football player in the NFL. The 5-foot-10, 205-pound running back, became the Panthers' leading career rusher in November before he was traded to the Colts.
What did he do? Alledgedy, Lane's blue Mercedes-Benz stopped in the middle of the road at around midnight Feb 3rd in Jackson, Tenn. Lane and his three passengers then got out of the Merc to look in the trunk. Police approached the vehicle and saw a loaded "assault-style rifle" in the trunk and the men were then searched and misdemeanor quantities of marijuana were found on Lane and Bryant Peoples.

Charged? Yep, alledgedly Lane was charged with both drug possession and "carrying a weapon with intent to go armed.".
Sentence? Lane and Peoples posted a $1000 bond and the case was pending against all Lane and the other three men. A grand jury in Jackson, Tenn., indicted him on the misdemeanor drug charges, but prosecutors dropped weapons charges against him, saying there wasn't enough evidence to support it.
Subsequently, Lane was shot dead by his wife in a domestic dispute at their Charlotte home.
